Having fun in the summer sun -Remember the suncream

Make sure your child knows the importance of protecting their skin.

Have lots of fun with this….

Below you will find poems and activities to help you .

Remember they are watching your every move so letting them see you apply it on yourself is a great start. 😉

Summer sunshine
Mr Golden Sun, please shine down on me!

“The sun is like a big round ball,

Shining in the sky!

It gives us lots of heat and light,

It makes me want to smile!”

Have fun applying the Sun-cream

{ Have fun chatting with your child. Interact with them encouraging them to name the parts of their body. }

You will also be increasing their vocabulary and helping them learn the names of the parts of their bodies in a fun enjoyable way.

“We need to put sun-cream on our bodies to protect them, especially when the sun is hot in summer.

Maybe you could say let’s pretend we are going to the beach , or do this activity when you are applying the cream.

So…where do we need to put on the sun-cream? – All over our bodies!”

{ You can pretend to put the cream on your own body and name the parts as you go…. }

“On our face make sure you put it on your forehead your cheeks your chin, rub it into your nose.

Make sure you put some on your ears. Your neck.

Where are your shoulders we need to put some on our arms

Rub it in to the elbows and wrists. We need to make sure it is on our tummies and our chests. Rub it on our backs. On our legs. Make sure we put some on our thighs, rub it into our knees and shins. Don’t forget your ankles and your feet. We must remember if we are in our bare feet to do the soles. See under your foot is called the soles. Rub some into your toes

Don’t forget your hands. Fantastic. Now we will be protected.

Well done!”

{ You will be increasing your child’s vocabulary.

Ask little  questions like where do you think we need to put the cream.

You can tell your child about how the elephant sprays mud and dust on his body with it’s trunk.

That’s how it protects itself from the hot sun – Isn’t that very clever.

It is a good idea to reinforce learning the parts of the body and one way to do this is singing

the little song they will be very familiar with… }

SONG: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

{ If you want to take the activity a little further, you can sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes” with your child }

“Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.

And eyes, and ears, and mouth,
And nose.

Head, shoulders, knees and toes,
Knees and toes.”

Watch Something special with Mr Tumble

Don’t forget to repeat these activities when you’re actually out and about in the sunshine (maybe at the beach) to help your child learn.

Have you got your own activities that you like to do with your child to teach them about the sun? Feel free to share and discuss in the comments section below.
